It is easy to tell why the Kenai Peninsula is a favorite among Alaskans. The lush, primeval forests host legendary rivers running with wild salmon. The glistening blue waters of glacier-scoured Kenai Fjord National Park are home to whales, dolphins, sea lions, harbor seals and sea otters.
The Kenai Wildlife Refuge and Alaska Wildlife Maritime Refuge provide more shorebird habitat than any place in the world. At the end of the road is a lovely friendly art community - Homer, also known as the Halibut Fishing Capital of the world and the gateway to the famous Katmai National Park. Katmai National Park has the highest concentration of brown bears in the world. Nature lovers go to observe brown bears in their natural habitat, and hike in the famed Valley of Ten Thousands Smokes.
